This year is National Year of Reading and the blog is a great place to share our reading experiences. I have just finished a fantastic read by a first time author, 'Wonder' by R.J. Palacio. This is August's story, a boy born with a disfigured face who after years of homeschooling by his Mum finds himself enrolled at Beecher Middle School. The story of Auggie's (Do you remember the Auggie Doggie & Daddy Doggie cartoons) journey through his first year at school is told by different participants in the story. Augggie is followed by his sister Olivia, a girl called Summer who befriends him at school and Jack another school friend. As each new person takes over the storytelling we learn more about August, his family and the new friends he makes at school. This could have been quite a depressing tale, by Palacio makes this an enjoyable and inspiring read. The promo on the back of the book says it all 'Never judge a (book) boy by (its cover) his face. The link below should take you straight to the catalogue, this is a 2012 must read book.
